Pony Club Testing Program
Do I Have To Take Tests?
The Canadian Pony Club has a nationally recognized education and evaluation program in which children will work with Pony Club volunteers, clinicians and their regular riding instructors to develop a set of skills designed to teach children safety, responsibility, and proper care of horses and ponies. The Equine Canada Rider Program is based on PC testing, and you can prepare for both PC and EC tests if you want – you don’t have to choose one or the other!
As well, riding skills are developed to ensure members learn slowly but steadily, and will gain valuable riding skills in a variety of riding situations (at home, at a horse show or rally, training a young horse vs. riding an older horse, etc.) The Pony Club testing system is an excellent way to see the progress your child is making - but it is optional. Members are tested yearly and the focus is on success and having fun preparing for testing. Members can also participate in a Badge program which allows members to be recognized for learning a new skill or area of knowledge. There are approximately 40 badges that members can earn.
How Does The CPC Testing Work?
Pony Club has an excellent education and testing program of riding skills and horse knowledge, starting from 'D', 'DI' and 'D2' levels (a bit like elementary school), the 'C', 'CI' and 'C2' levels (middle/high school) and the 'B' , 'B2' and 'A' level (university).
As in the school system, the young person works his or her way up the ladder; some finish at the 'A' level, some at the 'C' level. The testing program is an educational one, and is not competitive. Testing is organized by the DC and/or Test Rep. Up to and including the C1 level can be tested at FPC. Talk to the DC for more information. FPC members have the opportunity to use horses/ponies at Shadow Lane Farm for testing, however they must commit to taking lessons on the horse/pony leading up to the test date, to ensure that they are ready for the test. Candidates who have their own horse/pony can bring their animal to Shadow Lane Farm for the test day.
Here are the steps involved with doing testing:
Do You Sell Pony Club Manuals?
When you join Fredericton Pony Club, you receive a Pony Club manual. If you need to replace it (because it got lost or eaten by a pony), the manuals are available for $25.00 each. They are an EXCELLENT source of information and they are great to help you learn more about horses, to prepare for Pony Club and/or Equine Canada testing.
