These 3 "models" show what all young Pony Clubbers/riders should aspire to - it takes time to get the look right, but here are the things to note:
- hair is pulled back in a neat pony tail
- - riders are wearing a fitted, clean shirt. Golf shirts look very professional but are not required!
- - riders have BREECHES on - they are stretchy and comfortable and the knee patches provide grip when on the horse! If you don't have breeches, leggings are good. Your pants should be fitted. - - --Slim-leg jeans are good as well but if you're riding, they're not as comfortable.
- riders are wearing PADDOCK BOOTS (see image below) to protect their feet.
- The youngest rider is also wearing garters. These are not required for day-to-day Pony Club activities but this is "the look" for riders under 12 at horse shows :)
- The girl in the pink shirt is wearing half-chaps. They protect the lower leg while riding. Not required but they keep your legs comfortable when you're riding.
Paddock boots are very comfortable, safe boots to wear in the barn and/or while riding. They have a hard toe which protects feet if you get stepped on!
Paddock boots can be purchased in Fredericton at North Stream Farm Tack Shop or at Shur Gain Feeds and Needs. You can also purchase them at Greenhawk Equestrian in Moncton/Saint John. There are also winter paddock boots that you can purchase if you like - we don't ride during regular Pony Club, so Bogs or other snow boots are perfectly fine.

PLEASE NOTE - HELMETS ARE NOT NEEDED FOR REGULAR PONY CLUB ACTIVITIES - they are only required for events like Pony Club Camp.
Here are 2 kinds of riding helmets. We discourage members from wearing bike/hockey helmets while riding horses. The purple one is considered a SCHOOLING helmet - it's a fun colour and is perfect for riding lessons - they range in price from $40.00 - $125.00. The black (velvet) helmet is excellent for school and is a proper helmet for competition as well. They sell for similiar prices to the schooling helmet, though the high-end ones are much more expensive. BUYING A HELMET THAT FITS YOUR CHILD PROPERLY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PURCHASE YOU CAN MAKE!!! Please don't buy a cheap one one at a yard sale...go to a tack store (like North Stream Farm Tack Shop or Greenhawk Equestrian) and have your child fitted properly! Check out the following video to help you find the perfectly-fitting helmet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUSUH7mb3HQ |
These are HALF CHAPS. They come in a variety of colours and sizes. They zip up over the calf to protect the rider's leg while in the saddle.
These are NOT REQUIRED but they do make your child feel more secure in the saddle, if they're riding horses :)
